STYLE GURU STYLE: Thigh Boots Higher Than Your Standards

Keep your boots thigh-high, and your standards even higher.

Alexandre Vauthier’s 2016 spring couture show was awe-inspiring. The show was very uniformed in the way the models adapted a black base layer dress, and laced boots high enough to compensate for lack of coverage with the dress. The repetition of the same outfit and constant use of boots was just a way of Vauthier reiterating the exact construction of his pieces.

Taking inspiration from the 2016 spring couture show, I decided to incorporate Vauthier’s look and make it more spring-chic. Instead of sticking with the fierce all black look, I warmed up the outfit by adding a tan trench coat to my lace black dress. It gives the perfect nude balance.

If you’re anxious about wearing thigh-high boots as the central focus of your outfit, distract from the shoes by pairing them with a mixed print.Thigh-high boots can easily veer into Pretty Woman territory if they’re styled the wrong way, but you shouldn’t let that deter you from wearing one of the season’s hottest shoe trends.

Deciding to stick with the ever so classic color scheme of black, I added a black fedora which instantly makes any outfit trendy. My thigh-high suede boots give the illusion of longer legs and takes the outfit to another level. The combination of the thigh-high boots with the dress will reveal just a sliver of skin for a look that’s sultry yet understated. I completed my outfit with some cheetah print shades to give myself a polished look.

Get My Look: 1. Tan trench coat. 2. Suede thigh-high boot. 3. Black lace dress.
