STYLE GURU STYLE: The New Olsen Classic

As a millennial, I can vividly recall how Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen dominated television and film when I was younger. Now these twins are ruling another industry: the fashion industry. I have always been a fan of their personal style along with their brands The Row and Elizabeth & James. I find that their aesthetic is very clean with unique patterns and details. The look book they presented for Elizabeth & James resort 2015 has to be one of my favorite collections from this brand.

Stripes, florals and polka-dots were the featured patterns, all in neutral hues. Texturized knit sweaters, slim cigarette pants and boxy silhouettes were worn well by the model. With the occasional feminine touch this collection offers the perfect balance of structure and drape, which in turn comes across as elegant and sophisticated to the viewer. Overall this collection comes across as well layered, minimalistic and eye-catching.

In trying to emulate this collection, I was sure to include stripes in some form while trying to incorporate a textured sweater. The mid-length cardigan I have layered over a T-shirt is unique because it has knit pompoms woven throughout the fabric. This really adds a lot of texture to my look and I love the length of the garment itself since it’ll be great to layer over dresses. My striped T-shirt directly references the pattern shown in the look book. And while I wish I had the cigarette pants featured on the model I’ll have to settle for my high-waisted jeans which I tucked into my Dr. Martens. I incorporated two layered necklaces as unique accessories and with that my look is finished.

Get My Look: 1. A textured sweater. 2. A striped shirt. 3. A slim fitting pant.
