STYLE GURU STYLE: The Mad Hatter

Springtime is not for me. I get awful allergies, the weather changes everyday and my outfit never seems to be right. When the air gets cold and my eyelashes are dangerously close to freezing off, I’m at my happiest. However, until I can move to a place that is constantly covered in powdery snow, I need to keep my spring wardrobe.

I was shopping with my mom when I found a row of marked down hats. I’m not really someone who wears hats, since they usually get knocked off my head and I have to casually run after it while attempting to still look cute.

After trying on several hats for fun, my mom picked up a simple brown floppy hat. It ended up looking like it was made for me, luckily. It helped create the perfect springtime look and perfectly complemented my new haircut. I wore it with everything the entire week after, prompting compliments from nearly all my friends and co-workers. Even my not so fashion-conscious boyfriend commented on how nice it looked. Needless to say, my ego has been at an all-time high since trying this hat on in the store.

I’ve noticed an upswing in people wearing hats, whether it’s a beanie, a bucket hat or a floppy hat like mine. They’re a foolproof way to usher in the new spring weather without going overboard with boring florals. Thank you, Miranda Priestly! Ralph Lauren presented a similar style in his latest runway show, cementing the brown floppy hat’s position as a statement classic piece.

My go-to outfit for the ever-changing spring weather is a simple pair of black skinny jeans that melt into a pair of black stacked heel booties. A thin button-down in a neutral tone pairs perfectly with the hat’s cocoa hue. A funky magenta cross-body bag adds just the right pop of springtime color. Keeping jewelry minimal is a constant look for me, but feel free to layer a few dainty necklaces or rings to add a more bohemian vibe.

Get My Look: 1. A floppy hat in a neutral tone. 2. A funky cross body bag. 3. A delicately thin button-down.
