STYLE GURU STYLE: The Corner of Business and Chic

After being self-diagnosed with the post-holiday season blues, it’s time to get back in the swing of things and start the new year right. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to begin building a resume, whether that’s job shadowing or getting an internship. Both of these things require a business casual wardrobe, and Altuzarra’s resort 2016 collection helped inspire me.

The collection includes many professional outfits with an interesting twist. I adore how Joseph Aluzarra takes an ordinary blazer to the next level by adding certain textures or patterns, pairing a look with fun, statement heels and a chic pony.

My take on his creation translates to a slicked back bun and peplum tank with a black, edgy blazer. I’m obsessed with these crimson dress pants; they are almost too comfy to be true! Speaking of comfy, these suede heels are not only my favorite part of the outfit, but the two-inch heel allows a lot of mobility. Don’t let the buckles fool you, there are zippers in the back.

For jewelry, I can always rely on kate spade to design practical watches like this black and gold scalloped piece. Unfortunately, I can’t pull off thick hoop earrings like all of the Altuzarra models, but luckily they can be modified with statement studs.

Even though job interviews and internships typically have a dress protocol, that does not mean we have to give up our style. There are so many things us Fashionistas/os can turn to for inspiration.

Get My Look: 1. Black jacket. 2. Statement dress pants. 3. Back heels. 4. kate spade watch.
