STYLE GURU STYLE: Stuck in the Midi

Very few designers are known for understated chic, but Tome stands out among the rest. Tome is known for having a profound admiration for resilient and remarkable women, which is revealed through their innovative and sculpturally simplistic designs. Their spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection contained a heightened sense of “pretty” compared to their other collections, yet they still retained their edge. Major pieces in their collection included shirt dresses, wrapped tops, one shoulder ankle dresses and my latest favorite: midi skirts.

My look was inspired by the first look in the collection. I was always skeptical about midi skirts on my short figure, but I decided to take the plunge and try one on. To my surprise, the length was flattering and made me look taller. The slight slit in the side was lovely. The best part about this Forever 21 midi skirt is that it was only 10 dollars. The cotton fabric allows it to be dressed down or up—an extremely versatile piece and a new staple for me.

I cannot hide my obsession for ribbed crop tops. They are on trend, easy and can be paired with anything. I decided to wear this particular top to add a bit of color to break up the black. It made the look casual and was complementary to the shape of the skirt. This small, knotted cross-body bag was the perfect size for the outfit and the gold chain complemented the gold in the shoes. Chunky, flatform sandals have become a popular shoe for any edgy wardrobe. My favorite part about them is that I can get a little height without breaking an ankle.

The Tome collection has inspired me to take the plunge and wear shapes that I once feared. Their sculptural simplicity sets them apart and makes them a line to watch. Being a Fashionista means taking risks, trying on something you wouldn’t normally and transforming your wardrobe.
