STYLE GURU STYLE: Sporty-Chic

We all have those days when we just don’t have the energy to squeeze ourselves into a tiny skirt or tight jeans. Yes, even Fashionistas sometimes struggle to get themselves out of the house looking not only presentable, but trendy too. Just because you’re tired and have got a long day ahead of you does not mean that you have to settle for yoga pants and a T-shirt though. There are lots of options that are great for lazy days because they will keep you comfortable and still presentable.

Look two from Milly’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line was classic, chic but fairly casual looking. This ensemble featured a pair of black high-waisted trousers with a white stripe going down the side of each leg. These pants were sort of a dressy pair of harem pants. Conveniently, I had a similar pair and immediately got to work creating a look centered around these pants. Harem pants are very popular right now and I can only think it’s because they are both flattering and super comfortable. They can be styled in all sorts of ways to be both casual and dressy. Inspired by Milly’s original look, I decided to sport a pair of black and white striped pants as well. Black and white are such classic colors that always look dressy together. Tucked into these high-waisted pants was a simple black bodysuit. Bodysuits are a great option to tuck into pants or skirts because you don’t have to worry about them bunching up and becoming untucked.

To keep this ensemble looking simple and sporty, I kept accessories to a mimimum. I wore the same bracelets that can be found on my wrists on an everyday basis which include charm bracelets and a Lokai bracelet. I also wore a silver choker necklace. A pair of black TOMS shoes were on my feet because they are so easy to slip on but comfortable enough to run lots of errands in.

Overall this look was sporty but chic and definitely a step up from the usual sweatpants. Harem pants are the perfect option when you want to create an ensemble that doesn’t make you look like you just rolled out of bed, but you also don’t want to put a lot of energy into getting ready. They’re light and airy and perfect for all seasons. Black and white are also key colors when trying to creating an ensemble for any occasion. These two colors always give off a dressy vibe. Get style inspiration from the runway and invest in a pair or two of harem pants to add to your own closet—you won’t regret it!
