STYLE GURU STYLE: Spade’s Classics

Kate spade, New York based fashion designer, presented a feminine, vintage-inspired fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. These classic pieces translated beautifully on the runaway, and meshed well with the contrasting pieces between vintage and current styles. Kate spade is notorious for bringing together classic and current, but also being able to apply beautiful feminine flowers onto these looks. The collection has a beautiful spring feel, but with a fall twist. This collection may look out of the normal for kate spade at first glance, but kate spade was able to change things up while still being loyal to her fans through her eye for detail.

Drawing inspiration from this collection, I instantly knew I wanted something with a Victorian collar inspiration and slight florals. I was immediately drawn to this dress; not by only the spring colors, but also how these pastel florals could be easily translated to fall. My outfit is my personal adaptation of how kate spade continuously gathers classic- vintage cuts and translated them to wearable current fashion. What really sold me on this dress was the collar. I love how dainty the collar looked tied, yet could still draw from the Victorian trend. This vintage dress is not only easy and fun, but it also can still be adapted to the current trends.

I have also followed kate spade’s inspiration of retro cuts, wearing these Mary Jane heels. Having my heels and purse neutral colors not only made the dress the main attraction, but also gave another element of fun with different decades. The most important lesson to take away from kate spade’s fall 2016 ready-to- wear collection is to remember that it is okay to be vintage inspired and creative with different prints, no matter the season. Overall, fashion is about moments of empowerment and memories where you felt most confident. Don’t be afraid to take chances, and wear that bold, ruby red lip this fall!
