STYLE GURU STYLE: Shore Thing

March 25th, 2016 at 2:07am

So…winter happened. Remember those few weeks of cold we had? They’ve come and gone, making room for warm spring days to get here early. You won’t catch me complaining! As the chilly days come to an end, I’ve found myself shedding layers and looking for the simplest possible solution to getting dressed well in the morning.

Anyone who knows me at all, or at least sees me on a regular basis, knows that I have an unending love of stripes and a flair for all things nautical. So, naturally, the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi resort 2016 collection was something that I could get on board with (no pun intended). The collection takes nautical to a new level of sophistication with a broad array of silhouettes, colors and sizes of stripes. A long-sleeved maxi shows a more traditional take that includes a sailor collar while a flowing midi dress makes a modern interpretation with asymmetrical cuts and patterning.

Maxi or midi length garments with loose waistlines have been seen everywhere lately, but I personally like a different silhouette for myself. When my outfit is boxier and not accentuating my waist, I like the hemline to be a little higher. For this look, I wanted to create the simplest look possible while adding some nautical vibes. This dress does it all in one easy step! I think it’s a good idea to invest in a few shift dresses, casual or dressy, that can be thrown on at a moment’s notice. To finish the look, I added white sneakers and a warm brown leather bag.

Get My Look: 1. Striped nautical dress. 2. White sneakers. 3. Small leather bag.
