STYLE GURU STYLE: Safari-Chic

“Safari-chic” is the perfect phrase to describe Ralph Lauren’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear show. He changed traditional practical wear into bright and luxurious pieces. Lauren substituted plain, flat khaki for shimmery and metallic materials that gave the illusion of the pieces flowing effortlessly. To liven up the olive and khaki of safari wear, he topped off the cargo pants and jodhpurs (a Lauren staple) with bright scarves, tops and jackets in amethyst, canary yellow and hot pink. My personal favorite look from the collection was a T-shirt dress turned into an evening gown. It was a very simple concept for everyday wear turned into elegant evening wear. This show was another fabulous example of a designer using exotic travel themes as inspiration.

As I am getting ready to jet-off for the summer, I was feeling inspired by his safari influence. It is a tad too hot for pants, so I opted for these Free People cargo shorts instead. I wanted to be able to display a necklace in my outfit like many of the looks from the collection so I kept my top a simple T-shirt with shoulder cutouts. To finish off the look, I donned a pair of beaded moccasins.

This collection has me feeling adventurous and ready to take on the summer. While the bright colors and shimmery fabrics of this collection might not be practical for actual safari-like activities, it certainly is perfect for the adventure-seeking Fashionista.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of brown cargo shorts. 2. Beaded moccasins. 3. A gold spiked necklace.
