STYLE GURU STYLE: Retro Vibin'

It is often stated that women who wear black simply lead the most colorful lives. I’ve always been an advocate for the darkest of dark ensembles, head to toe. With that being said, Saint Laurent’s fall 2016 runway collection spoke to me on numerous levels. A majority of the pieces are all-black, consisting of leather, mesh and fur insets to spice it up. The collection evokes ’80s vibes by tossing in metallics, statement belts, one shoulder looks and eye-catching puff shoulders.

This runway collection inspired me to capture the retro vibes and dark looks and convert them into an every day look I would wear. I also wanted to shift the runway looks into a more casual appearance, rather than the formal and stiff looks presented in the show. To achieve this, I turned to a newer addition to my wardrobe, a black lace-up halter top. This top is so versatile for summer. It can be dressed up with a skirt, or down with cut-offs, and its dark and solid hue allows it to match just about any bottoms. I paired this top with white denim shorts, then tossed in the past trend of the shirt tied around the waist to accent the retro vibes of the collection. The shirt I chose for my waist is a black and white checkered shirt, utilizing the contrast of black and white to balance the darkness of the top. Finally, I wore white Nike sneakers to emphasize my purpose of making the outfit a comfortable every day look.
