STYLE GURU STYLE: Presentation Ready

Spring semester only means one thing to me: project presentations. Lately, it seems as if I am dressing up almost every day of the week! All my distressed skinny jeans, Converse, and baseball caps have been calling my name, but I am stuck with slacks and pantsuits. I guess dressing up is just preparing me for the real world, so I can’t complain too much.

Personally, I actually do love dressing business casual. It may seem a little intimidating to some, but it is actually super easy if you think about it. A business casual look is typically only made up of two or three pieces. I like to think of a business casual look as almost a blank canvas. I can still play with colors, textures, and prints just like any other outfit type. Business casual looks get a bad rap because they are so intensively linked to the office setting. I say rock that blazer and pencil skirt any day of the week, especially when you have a project presentation that day.

A simple route to take when it comes to a business casual look is to make a printed dress your focal point. This allows you to not really have to worry about anything else. Take my outfit for example. I made a black and blush floral printed dress the star and then layered a black blazer over it. It’s crazy how much a single blazer can add a sense of professionalism.

To finish off my outfit, I added black tights and a pair of black heels with strap details. Just like a blazer, I think a simple black heel can add a professionalism that is hard to find anywhere else. Of course I had to add a touch of Sara to this look. A pair of turquoise stone teardrop earrings added the much needed finishing touch!
