STYLE GURU STYLE: Pops Of Pink

I swear it feels like it’s been forever since the last time the sun was shining and the grass wasn’t hidden by snow. College students are starting to switch out their winter neutrals and darks for bright colors and bold patterns, and I couldn’t be happier for the transition. There’s no doubt that kate spade new york always represents the best aspects of spring: bold florals, pops of colors and flirty silhouettes. Their spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection definitely embraced a spin on luxurious leisurewear. The silhouettes were a bit different than their usuals, featuring crop tops, mini skirts and outwear with boxy cuts. It seemed to be all about utilizing the basic silhouettes while refreshing them to feel newer and much more ladylike.

This show inspired me to utilize some of the more basic pieces from my wardrobe and pair them differently. kate spade new york’s spring collection was definitely all about the waistline, so my high waisted jeans were a definite step in the right direction to show off my curves. When paired with a crisp white top, it might seem a little too basic, so cuffing the jeans and adding a flirty pair of bright pumps is a fun yet chic way to dress up the outfit without making it too dressy for everyday wear. I was really surprised with the direction that the kate spade new york collection went in, as the silhouettes reminded me a lot more of traditional J.Crew pieces.

What’s the best way to dress up an otherwise bland outfit? Statement jewelry. Following a color scheme for a classic outfit is the best way to keep the colors in sync. By layering an edgily structured pastel necklace with a long knotted pearl one, it added a fun yet feminine touch to really play off of my other bright accessories. One of my favorite purchases of the year was a trench coat. I find that it’s the perfect outerwear for spring weather since it is such a timeless piece. It’s understated yet chic and can be dressed up or down with ease. Add a bright tote, and you’re ready for the perfect spring day!
