Each season brings a ton of fresh new fashion trends, some crazier than others. I enjoy trying new trends that I like, but I always make sure to style the trend in a way that fits into my own personal style. If you are constantly following trends, you don’t necessarily have style; style is so much more than that. It’s about painting your own canvas in a way that is unique to you. Style is about setting your own trends and being yourself.
One trend I saw and immediately wanted to emulate was the mixing of black and pops of bright colors featured in the 2013 Christian Dior spring ready-to-wear collection. This show was absolutely beautiful. Every outfit in the collection looked like a work of art. It is clear that each piece in the collection was constructed with care. The collection was filled with full skirts, rompers, dresses and pant suits. The collection definitely had a base color of black that was consistently woven throughout the show, and the designer added bright colors or patterns wherever he saw fit.
The black with bright color trend is stunning and so easy to interpret. For my own take on this trend, I decided to wear a black off the shoulder dress with pom-pom detailing. My color pop of choice was hot pink, one of my favorite colors. I chose a hot pink cross-body bag and heels to make my look stand out. A pink bangle and gold statement necklace rounded out my accessories. Wearing all black attire with pops of bright colors is a very easy and fun way to make a chic yet subtle statement. It’s like saying you are calm, cool and collected but you have a wild side. Dressed like this, you are sure to be a conversation piece. I mean, who wouldn’t want to get to know such a mysterious and exciting fashion unicorn like yourself?
