STYLE GURU STYLE: Lovely in Layers

Dressing in the winter can be especially frustrating, as temperatures tend to fluctuate and even more importantly because I find myself always freezing. I’ve come to learn the most important trick is layering. This allows you to bundle up, yet have the ability to take off pieces when you go indoors or if you begin to feel warm.

For this reason, I was extremely excited when I saw this distressed, oversize denim jacket hanging on a rack at Forever 21. I am a huge fan of the oversize, “boyfriend” look, which is effortlessly chic while being exceptionally comfortable. That’s why I have several of my dad’s sweaters hanging around in my closet. This particular jacket is baggy enough to fit a leather jacket and turtleneck under which kept me surprisingly warm and easy to layer down when I would go indoors. This outfit really represents my love of experimenting with my personal style and mixing different pieces to get a fun and unique look.

For this outfit I wore my new Forever 21 denim jacket mentioned above. I layered my staple black turtleneck underneath with a leather jacket over it since it was pretty chilly. I threw on a simple black scarf that my mom gave me. To add a more feminine twist and contrast the loose-fitting jacket, I wore an army green corduroy skirt also from Forever 21. I included tights to keep my legs warm along with my suede Marc Fisher over-the-knee boots, which have a thick heel making them perfect to walk around in, but also ideal to go out later. I absolutely love the boot and skirt/dress look and you can probably catch me wearing this combination around campus all fall and winter long! I hope you enjoy the look as much as I did.
