STYLE GURU STYLE: Livin’ Life On The Fringe

One glance inside the depths of my closet reveals a plethora of fringe—a fringe-trimmed kimono and cardigan, a fringe cross-body purse, a sundress with fringe accents and a shirt with fringe lining. But my favorite fringe article of clothing is definitely my white fringed skirt.

When seeking inspiration for fresh, new ways to style an outfit with this skirt, I stumbled upon Ralph Lauren’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, and I immediately fell in love. The collection was filled with fringe-trimmed pieces, from sweaters to purses. The line as a whole had a very earthy vibe to it, as most of the pieces were in neutral colors. But it was the final handful of designs—dressier black and white outfits—that ultimately helped me decide how to style my skirt before a night out to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Though these looks didn’t include fringe accents themselves, they blended seamlessly with the rest of the collection. This ultimately made me realize a different, dressier side to fringe clothing, and I could not be happier because this means I now have more chances to wear the skirt!

Fringe skirts are kind of like the fashionable, more polished older sister of hula skirts, and they’re more versatile than you may think; they can be worn with a graphic cutoff tank top and strappy sandals for an outdoor music festival or with glam accessories and wedges for a dressier look like what I wore. High crop tops are the classiest of all crops in my book; the high neckline ensures that you’re not showing excessive cleavage, but the fact that it’s a crop allows for a tasteful amount of tummy to peek out. I couldn’t resist a bold, dark lip and a bright accessory to jazz up this outfit, so I went for a turquoise statement necklace.

It’s definitely worth it to invest in a fringe skirt not only because of its versatile nature but also because of the way it’ll make you feel when you wear it. Any sudden movement causes the fabric tassels to flutter and sway, so you automatically feel like you’re fiercely strutting down a runway as you walk. What’s not to love about that?

Get My Look: 1. A fringe skirt. 2. A glam high neck crop top. 3. A bold, bright necklace.
