STYLE GURU STYLE: Little Black (And White) Dress

A little black dress is a staple in any fashionable girl’s wardrobe. However, you can easily amp that look up by wearing a black and white pattern, or a two piece skirt and top to be a little more edgy. A little black dress is classically feminine, but a two piece with a stand out pattern allows you to stand out in the crowd. It is definitely nice to go for a classic look, but sometimes it is fun to add a spark to your look.

This look is loosely inspired by Saint Laurent’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, which featured black and white stripes, mini skirts of this length and oversized shirts and blazers to top small dresses. When I saw this collection, I thought it was the perfect inspiration for outfits to wear to go out with girlfriends or on a date night. I stuck with a subtle color palette of black, white and gray, much like the collection, to let the shapes and patterns of the outfit shine. Additionally, the collection featured some huge fur jackets and amazing textures. I decided to incorporate that through my strappy suede shoes.

It is so easy to get dolled up in a little black dress. All-black outfits are definitely a source of comfort for many girls, and let us get dressed with an assurance that we’re going to like our look. However, sometimes it is fun to stand out in the crowd and going for a loud pattern or an exposed midriff is an amazing way to turn some heads.

The base of my outfit is a two-piece dress from Forever 21 that is ultra comfy, cool and surprisingly slimming. To make the look a little more casual for the transition from daytime to evening, I added a neutral oversized button-up. To top it off, I added some sunglasses to dress it down just a notch more.

A black dress will always be in and look amazing for dates and nights out. But if you want to shake up your dress routine, go for a two-piece, a bold pattern or both. Wear them alone to wow, or layer them up for a perfect day to night outfit.

Get my look: 1. Sassy two-piece. 2. Cute heels. 3. Stunner shades.
