STYLE GURU STYLE: Leather Weather

I’m not one for busy patterns or bright colors. When I go shopping (which is pretty much bi-weekly), I always realize when I’m checking out that all my items are either black, gray or white. I definitely encourage myself to branch outside of my monochromatic nest, but I can’t seem to break out of that habit just yet. Instead of being ashamed of this realization, I’ve only found ways to justify my color choices. MM6 Maison Margiela’s pre-fall 2016 collection has me feeling like maybe I’m on the right track.

What I really love about this collection is the combination of leather and the flowy silhouettes. Yes, both my jacket and my leggings are faux leather, but they have been a huge asset to my wardrobe. Whether real or faux, I think every Fashionista/o should have some type of leather in his or her wardrobe. MM6 Maison Margiela’s incorporation of leather gives the looks in this collection that extra edge. This collection turns casual pieces into something you’ll want to wear when you go out for the night.

MM6 Maison Margiela’s collection had a lot flannels with flowy silhouettes so I decided to copy the silhouette. The loose silhouette of my top offers a break from the structured and tight look of the leather. The peak of gray of my shirt adds a contrast between the leather on leather.

Black boots were a dominating force in MM6 Maison Margiela’s collection so I decided to emulate the look with a pair of heeled Chelsea boots. My shoe choice dressed my look up more, but a pair of combat or flat-heeled Chelsea boots would look just as good and make the outfit more casual. I then decided to add a personal touch by adding my watch for a more feminine touch.

Get My Look: 1. Leather leggings. 2. A leather jacket. 3. A flowy top. 4. Chelsea boots.
