STYLE GURU STYLE: Kimono Krazy

The current runway show from Duro Olowu showcased many gorgeous, printed kimonos. This spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was very colorful, which made me extremely excited to start to pull out my spring wardrobe. The bold colors and prints stood out, making it hard to look away, which is great when wanting to stand out as you walk through campus. One of my favorite looks from the runway was the neutral, dark brown, printed kimono with peach accents. The main reason I love this look is because it is not only a neutral color, but it contains various tones of peach throughout the garment, which only draws more attention to it.

Trying to mimic Duro Olowu’s patterned pieces, I added a few twists of my own to fit my personal style. I styled a white lace tank with a black floral-printed kimono. The pink and cream floral print made this piece pop. I paired my kimono with dark wash jeggings and simple black TOMS shoes. To accessorize, I added gold bangles to my stackable Alex & Ani charm bracelets. Matching my stacked bracelets I put on a few gold rings to accent my other accessories.

I was inspired by Olowu’s spring 2015 runway looks because they were so striking and out of the box. When first seeing these different ensembles, I thought that there were too many bright colors in the mix. But, after setting aside my initial reaction, I soon realized the assortment of vibrant colors was a major statement in a good way. This look is very feminine, flirty and powerful with all of the beautiful colors standing out. From being exposed to Duro Olowu’s unique taste, this eye-catching trend will definitely be incorporated into my daily wardrobe more often.

Get My Look: 1. A floral-printed kimono. 2. A few beautiful bangles. 3. A neutral pair of TOMS shoes.
