STYLE GURU STYLE: Just Call Me A Preppy Rocker

One of my favorite designers is Stacey Bendet of alice + olivia, a New York based clothing company. I always look forward to her runway shows because I consistently relate to what she introduces and promotes. Her most recent fall 2015 ready-to-wear show featured some amazing pieces that anyone could wear. The overall palette included a lot of whites, blacks and neutrals, with some pop of color using dark red, navy, forest greens and a bright yellow. Different fabrics and textures were incorporated into the designs, and these brought a unique look and feel to the show and garments, themselves. The inspiration and trend that alice + olivia used was boho mixed with a rocker. At first, I was skeptical, but the completely different looks can be brought together in an amazing way.

I thought it was time to try to put this look to the test and actually rock it in my own way. I knew I had all the pieces in my closet, and the alice + olivia runway show inspired me to put some very different styles, colors and textures together. I went with the black colors, accentuating jacket, mixed textures and a leather skirt. I knew I needed to tone the outfit down a little to make it more practical and wearable. Instead of over-the-knee boots, monochromatic black and a long leather skirt, I went with over-the-knee socks, black booties, a white shirt and a shorter, flared leather skirt. The gold watch and bracelet accentuated the jacket and brought in more color.

The alice + olivia fall 2015 show really resonated with me. I loved the mixture of different styles, textures and trends. The show inspired me to put looks together while staying true to my overall style. It may seem a little risky, but from now on I am going to try to mix trends, fabrics, textures and colors to create a look that wins on the runway and in everyday style.

Get My Look: 1. The right leather skirt. 2. Amazing booties. 3. A velvet blazer.
