STYLE GURU STYLE: J.Crew For Me And For You

Lately, gender neutrality has been making its statement in fashion. Interesting enough, I have noticed that for a while, even before the exposure of this movement, I have been gaining style inspiration from men’s fashion. I catch myself spending time browsing over men’s fashion blogs and runway shows equally as often as I do with my favorite female bloggers and fashion looks. Now with gender neutrality in fashion making a buzz in media, I have discovered that tons of my favorite pieces were bought in the men’s section of clothing stores.

In this particular look I have gained most of my inspiration from the J.Crew fall 2016 menswear collection. The focus on texture, neutrals, earthy tones and layering easily define the collection’s focus. The collection emphasized on styling corduroy pieces with pieces of wool to juxtapose the fabric for a unique, yet subtly rustic presentation.

As a Style Guru, most of the joy comes from utilizing inspiration from the runway and curating my own look. I decided to take most of the inspiration from look 19. Layering added a beautifully crafted sense of dimension that I identified within my personal style. A deep brown corduroy playsuit is layered under a wool, plaid patterned scarf and a soft, creamy beige jacket. In my look I took the element of layering corduroy and wool by wearing a faux wool, gray sweater dress under a patterned faux wool cardigan, topped with a creamy beige corduroy jacket.

To add a touch of my own style I decided to ditch corduroy pants and wear sheer black tights with a subtle rip, adding a touch of grunge. I accessorized with a thin black scarf wrapped around my neck, a dainty Free People necklace, gold rings and a black cross-body purse. To complete the look, I wore my favorite black booties from Forever 21 with mid-calf black socks.

Experimenting with menswear as a Fashionista can surprise you with a killer outfit.
