STYLE GURU STYLE: Into The Garden

As the springtime saying goes: April showers bring May flowers. Not surprisingly, floral print is traditionally a popular print around this time of the year (shocking, I know!). For this week’s STYLE GURU STYLE look, I was inspired by designer Blumarine’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, which showcased everything floral and spring—but with a twist. Blumarine’s floral collection doesn’t give off your typical flowery and romantic vibe; with looks including this white minimalistic number, the designer incorporated floral print into a very modern and almost sporty setting, executing simple silhouettes and bold prints.

What really captured me about this particular collection is Blumarine’s ability to transform a traditional print into something modern yet feminine. The silhouettes inspire coolness and chicness, yet the floral print exudes sweetness and vibrance; it’s like your modern day garden tea party! I was inspired by both of these aspects, so I attempted to incorporate both into my outfit. This outfit is actually a combination of a short sleeved crop top over a floral dress. The top has a more boxy silhouette that contrasts with the flounce of the dress. While considering the silhouette, I also attempted to mimic the tea party-esque look and chose a top that also had delicate detailing.

It’s fairly easy to mimic this kind of look; it can go many ways (as long as you’re creative!). The main idea would be contrasting silhouettes, like boxy and soft areas. Instead of a crop top and a dress, you could pair together pleated pants with a loose blouse. Add some floral print in there and you’re ready for that modern tea party!

Get My Look: 1. A floral dress. 2. A boxy top. 3. Cute flats.
