STYLE GURU STYLE: In Neutral Territory

Spring and summer are typically celebrated with exuberant colors, floral prints and big floppy hats. Although I love all of those elements of this season’s typical style, the Altuzarra pre-fall 2015 collection inspired me to try something a little different. Neutral palettes are very on-trend, and Altuzarra’s execution was breath-taking. With utilitarian construction, split hemlines and the genius incorporation of patterns, I could not help but ravage my closet for pieces that channeled the powerful vibe of these looks.

I was captivated by the olive tones in the looks at the beginning of the collection and knew I just had to use this color in my own ensemble. Recently, I scored this floor-sweeping olive cardigan at Urban Outfitters and could not wait for it to make its debut. Its soft material, unique color and maxi cut worked flawlessly for the end-of-the semester errands I needed to do and made me feel incredibly chic. To complement this statement piece, I wore a nude bodycon midi dress. The simplicity of the dress makes it perfect for virtually any occasion, and its length makes it appropriate for daytime wear as well. No outfit is complete without the perfect shoe, and my metallic leopard print adidas sneakers were exactly that. Their blissful comfort coupled with the eye-catching details made them a win-win and integrated the leopard print from Altuzarra’s collection. Finally, I swapped the beloved big floppy hat of the season for a hat that was a bit more unexpected. This straw baseball cap is fun, chic and ties in the sporty vibe of the whole look. A simple black watch with a fun charm added extra character for the earth tones. For my makeup, I opted for a muted coral lip, a shade called “Tan-gerine” by NYX, to bring in a slight pop of color that did not upstage the rest of the look.

This collection inspired me to go for a more “ground-breaking” look for spring (Miranda Priestly would be proud). Altuzarra’s pre-fall 2015 collection is perfect for powerful women with style and showed me that neutral tones can be just as captivating as bright colors any day.

Get My Look: 1. A maxi cardigan. 2. Sassy animal print sneakers. 3. A simple bodycon dress.
