STYLE GURU STYLE: How to Rock a Statement Piece

If I took anything away from New York Fashion Week’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collections this year, it would be that simplicity is definitely my favorite characteristic of any sort of outfit. One of my favorite collections this year had to be Rebecca Minkoff’s collection because I could easily see myself wearing any of the gorgeous pieces she designed.

I’m a lover for jackets and coats, which is probably for the best living in the midwest where the weather is unpredictable seven days a week, 365 days a year. This is why Minkoff’s collection was so stand out for me: five of the eight looks included gorgeously made jackets and coats that are perfect examples of how to rock your style in the cold.

One of my favorite pieces that I’ve purchased since I came to college is my leather jacket from Topshop. I love being able to wear it to class, out shopping on Michigan Avenue or out on a Saturday night with my friends. Having a versatile wardrobe is definitely key! Investing in a nice jacket will make you feel more put together on any given day, even if you may think the rest of your outfit needs a bit of work.

If you’re anything like me and are super budget-conscious, Zara has some great alternatives to spending hundreds of dollars on that dream biker jacket.

Now on to my next favorite part: shoes. I recently picked up these boots after finally getting over the fact that I am tall (I’m just about 5’11”). I have decided to embrace my height, and it’s the best decision I’ve made for my wardrobe over the last few months. These shoes go with everything, are surprisingly comfortable and I can always see in crowds—an added bonus, for sure.

Get My Look: 1. Chic leather jacket. 2. Simple turtleneck sweater. 3. Black jeans. 4. Black heeled booties. 5. Leather bag.
