STYLE GURU STYLE: Hoodie Heaven

I know that there are early Monday mornings where I would gladly swap out a stiff blouse for a comfy sweatshirt. Hoodies from the Vetements collective have slowly begun to make appearances on celebrities from Rita Ora to Kanye West and even a high heeled Selena Gomez. The brand first struck public notice after Kanye was spotted wearing a black Vetements hoodie, and from there it has only increased in popularity. Now Demna Gvasalia is giving us more with the new looks sported by models wearing his fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Hoodies, sweatshirts and zip-ups are littered throughout various looks, proving that casual can be high-fashion if you try hard enough.

Now, if you’re like me and it’s not in your budget to shell out several hundred dollars for a hoodie, you may need to make a few small adjustments. I kept the colors dark. Gvasalia seems to favor blacks, browns and dark purples in his latest collection, save the occasional orange tracksuit. High-waisted pants seem to be just about everywhere, so jeans with that silhouette were a no-brainer. Long lines were present throughout the looks at the Vetements show, but cuffing the jeans and wearing sleeves that are a suitable length were necessary to make the look more wearable for someone shorter like me. The sneakers were a fun addition to make the look just a bit brighter and more appropriate for spring. Armed with my favorite sunglasses and my go-to purse, I may not look as cool as Selena Gomez, but I can pretend that I’m close.

Get My Look: 1. Gray sweatshirt. 2. High-waisted jeans. 3. Splattered sneakers.
