STYLE GURU STYLE: Going for the Gold

For any Fashionista living in New York City, this is a glorious and carefully anticipated week, otherwise known as New York Fashion Week. The atmosphere of heightened style in the city is one you don’t want to miss. It provides the perfect opportunity to grab inspiration for the season’s styles and streetwear.

Since fall is coming up, but it’s still very warm in NYC, I had to dress accordingly. While it’s okay to be uncomfortable sometimes when you really love a look or a pair of shoes (we’ve all done it), wearing a painless outfit will generally ensure that you have a better day. Running around the shows, I wanted a stunning outfit that also kept me mobile. This outfit just fell together.

My main statement was all about the skirt. It’s a Parker skirt I got while thrift shopping, and I’m obsessed with all its glam. It’s one of those absolutely unique pieces I’m always desperate to add to my closet, and works for any Fashionista who is looking to stand out. I wanted to match the gold tones with my own gold trench: it might be hot outside, but it has been rainy, and I couldn’t resist adding my favorite touch—a coat—to the outfit.

Since the outfit already had a lot going on, I paired it with a simple, knotted, black crop top and black shoes. I love how the cutout in the top matches the geometric flap on my skirt, and the shoelaces mirror the triangles, but also add a feminine touch. I suggest making sure you use the same color palette for your outfit. Even though this outfit has a lot of bells and whistles, I decided to experiment with metallics and the colors in the skirt, instead of adding even more color. Even my purse, although it’s blue, picks up on the purple and turquoise in the skirt.

At first I was hesitant to add jewelry, but I decided to go for it by adding long, dangly gold earrings. I’m happy I did; I think they balanced the outfit and made it even more original.

Hope you guys enjoyed this look as much as I did! Don’t be afraid to go for the gold. And don’t forget to click the RAD button!
