STYLE GURU STYLE: Girlin’ Up Gothic

I know it’s spring and I should be thinking about pastels and neons, but I can’t get enough of the Giles fall 2015 ready-to-wear show. In case you haven’t seen it yet, the collection is full of moody hues and cool girl designs. I fell in love with the striking black lipstick and bow details. Giles offers the perfect inspiration for the dark and rainy days of April or for whenever you’re feeling edgy.

While I tend to veer toward minimalist styles with my monochromatic outfits, I decided to embrace texture and detail in this look. I began with a simple black pencil skirt as my base. From there, I threw on a ruffled tank top with a velvet stripe on top. The ruffles and the velvet connect back to many of the looks that Giles sent down the runway. They both have a gothic feel that helps to elevate the ensemble from the more traditional streamlined black combo.

One of my favorite parts of the show is that as dark as it may be, it still makes sure to include some very girly details. I was a huge fan of the pointed shoes and the bow accents in particular. My heels are great not only because of their classy shape, but also because of the many spikes covering them. As for bows, I had to wear the biggest bow headband I own. This one is big, pink and unabashedly girly. I love how it contrasts with the rest of the outfit.

I polished things off with one of my favorite vampy lipsticks. This one is not quite as deep as the ones in the show, but I think it’s more wearable as an everyday style. All in all, I am obsessed with this collection and feel inspired by what Giles created. I will definitely be playing around with similar outfits in the rainy days to come!
