STYLE GURU STYLE: Gingham Is In Session

When one thinks of Dolce&Gabbana, they think roses and vibrant colors. Dark, romantic florals are what Dolce&Gabbana do best. For this look, I found inspiration from Dolce&Gabbana’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. There is a unique aristocratic elegance to Dolce&Gabbana that cannot simply be replicated. But, what I love most is how they use black as a key component to echo off the brighter jewel tones in this collection. As a result, we see understated prints with brighter jewel toned appliqués and florals.

Rose appliqués were a common detail in the show. Because of this, I chose to base my outfit around this eye-catching Dolce&Gabbana classic. This shirt immediately caught my attention due to the similar use of florals and patterns.

The red and black color scheme is no mystery to Dolce&Gabbana, who uses these tones throughout most of their collections—something that I absolutely adore! It’s romantic and the colors make it easy to pair with just about anything.

One particular look from the collection features a black and white houndstooth dress adorned in glittering rose appliqués. I traded in the houndstooth for gingham in my recreation of this look. Gingham is having a moment! It’s everywhere you look and has the power to instantly take you from winter to spring. I paired this ruffled, button-down blouse with simple black faded jeans to accentuate the detail in the top. In the summer, one could easily brighten up this look with white denim, whether that be white denim jeans or shorts! I kept my shoes simple as well but opted for a black, elegant d’Orsay styled flat. The flats keep the look feminine while also adding a bit of edginess with the pointed tip.

Last but not least, I took inspiration from Dolce&Gabbana’s look by completing my outfit with a small, red cross-body. This bag not only brings out the red in the top, but it also features the gold metal details that Dolce&Gabbana skillfully incorporates into their collections. And, what’s a red, white and black Dolce&Gabbana look without red lipstick? I finished off my look with a bold red lip.

Get My Look: 1. A gingham ruffled blouse. 2. A classic d’Orsay flat. 3. A red cross-body.
