STYLE GURU STYLE: Get Up And Go

The other day when I woke up, my mind was immediately crowded with an overwhelming resistance towards the long day that I knew lay ahead. I just honestly didn’t have the energy to put much brainpower towards selecting an outfit that was put together, on-trend and somehow appropriate for the weather. Ugh, all I really wanted to wear was my pajamas. The solution? Pieces that felt just as forgiving as my PJ’s but way more acceptable than the boxers and oversized T-shirt I had slept in the previous night. And especially on days when I know I have to be on campus from morning ’til night, I need easy, no-fuss options to get me through.

First and foremost, I look to my trusty Birkenstock sandals to come in handy for a long day of walking on campus. Not being one to dress primarily for function, it’s always a happy coincidence when items I find to be fashionable are actually just as useful. And with the weather being as unpredictable as ever lately, I can never be totally sure if the day will bring cool breezes or scorching heat, so it’s always better to play it safe and just dress for both. I did just that by throwing on a lightweight silky jacket over an über-summery cropped halter top. Luckily for me, loose-fitting printed pants like these are in style right now and I like how the floral pattern on this pair gives it a fresh feel for springtime.

Right about now you’re probably thinking, “But there’s no way looking cute for class can mean feeling like wearing my PJ’s”. You might actually be surprised to find comfortable styles on the runways of designers like Michael Kors. Although his spring 2015 ready-to-wear show featured a plethora of floral patterns in feminine A-line skirts and dresses, it was the boyish charm of this look that spoke to me most. I love the way the clothes seem to effortlessly drape off the model and her matching top and pants set reminds me so much of those pajama sets I used to wear as a kid (admit it, you too owned a pair at some point). With a light sweater casually draped over her shoulders, a cool pair of slides on her feet and even sunglasses on, this model oozes a sense of effortless comfort. The look says “I’m not trying too hard” without seeming as if zero effort was actually made. With combinations like these, allow yourself the extra few snoozes of your alarm in the morning and simply get up and go.

Get My Look: 1. A silky jacket. 2. Floral trousers. 3. Slides.
