STYLE GURU STYLE: Funky Fresh Prints

I have to admit, I’ve been dying to wear an outfit like this for months now. The difficult thing about being a PNW native is that more often than not, you have to dress for the weather, for practicality and of course for last minute adventures. That means that I usually find myself wearing a baggy sweater or T-Shirt, ripped jeans and boots since those basics get me through the day and go with virtually any layering combination I could need to accommodate for the weather. So when I found out the weather forecast would be sunny for several days in a row (a rarity even in spring), I jumped at the chance to wear this outfit.

If anybody does funky fresh prints right it has to be J.Crew. Which is why I chose to draw inspiration for my outfit from their fall 2015 ready-to-wear show. What especially drew me to this runway show was how well-styled the looks were. There was a pattern of jean on jean outfits with a hint of sparkly accessories, neutral color palettes with a pop of neon or print and gorgeous heeled sandals. I loved all the looks in the show so much that it was difficult to narrow down a favorite outfit to draw inspiration from; however, look 28 particularly captured my attention.

In the spirit of all things funky, fresh and spring, I chose to highlight the use of print at the J.Crew show. The featured item of my outfit was my blue and white polka-dot printed pants which I chose to pair with a neon yellow sweater, topped off by neutral accessories such as my gray leather jacket, gray socks and light brown heeled sandals. Pulling together this look was really so effortless, and the best advice for rocking any of the looks from this J.Crew show is to not overthink. I know; it might feel overwhelming and “wrong” to pair patterns with bold neon tones but I think if there is anything that can be learned from this runway show, its that excellent styling and a bit of confidence is all it really takes to rock any outfit.

Wearing funky looks like the ones found in this J.Crew runway show is such a great way to bring the fresh spirit of spring to your wardrobe. The exuberant vibes this outfit gives are a great pick me up on a rough Monday morning, and the look can be easily adjusted to suit any situations whether they involve formal wear (swap the heeled sandals for flats) or casual wear (swap the neon sweater for a neon T-shirt). Be daring this spring, and rock pair of patterned pants and a pop of neon. You won’t regret it.
