STYLE GURU STYLE: Flower Power

Flowers for spring? How original. But, in fact, flora is big this season. Blooms are blown up all over the spring 2015 runways from Dolce&Gabbana, Karen Walker, Michael Kors and so many more. Designers are reinventing the traditional print by going big and bold. Some went for classic feminine while others plastered the print on menswear-inspired pieces, like the eye-catching daisy print from Thom Browne. Flora could be spotted anywhere from accessories to outerwear. But I was inspired by the latter.

We’re still pretty early into spring, and therefore, the winter chill has not completely left the air. A floral print jacket seems to be a perfect resolution for introducing a spring aesthetic without sacrificing comfort. Carolina Herrera was one to incorporate the bold blooms on the runway, including a dramatic outerwear look. This piece was inspiration for my own flora print interpretation.

What I found so intriguing about the Carolina Herrera look as well as the Thom Browne look was the contrast of the oversized floral against a black backdrop. This allows the piece to be striking without going crazy with color. I followed suit of the Carolina Herrera look by sporting a jacket that donned the big floral print. It’s true that black is the biggest neutral in my wardrobe. Therefore, I paired the subdued outerwear with a black skirt and black booties. I did add a tiny bit of color with a pastel pink envelope bag and some rosy lips.

Carolina Herrera’s spring 2015 collection look inspires boldness while retaining femininity. It is the epitome of flower power. The petals can be applied to any piece of an ensemble so us Fashionistas can decide how little or how much we wish to sport. The great thing is that these blooms are beautiful and don’t result in an unfortunate allergy attack. Get your floral fix by adding some big blossoms into your wardrobe.
