STYLE GURU STYLE: Feminine Neon

Chanel has always been a major inspiration in terms of both my lifestyle and my fashion sense. In the words of Coco herself, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Chanel’s spring 2015 couture show was most certainly up to the aforementioned criteria. My very favorite looks came towards the end of the show—huge, ravishingly-crafted florals adorned on each garment made the finale appear like it was actually in stunning bloom. The effect was excitingly bold yet delicate and truly captivating. Complementary effects of bold and pastel colors of each look (my absolute favorite hues were the reds, cobalt blues and blush pinks) were extremely fashion-forward and just the kind of juxtaposition that I love to embody within my own style.

Inspired by the enchanting attitude of the collection, I gravitated toward a vintage, backless lingerie dress that I hadn’t yet had the courage to break out of my closet just yet. While lacking in actual blooms themselves, its vividly rich floral print worked just the kind of magic I was hoping it would. The silk fabric and backless silhouette left me feeling ultra-feminine and confidently edgy.

Wanting to let the dress be the statement piece of my ensemble, I kept my accessorizing fairly minimal. In order to further the eccentric playfulness crafted by Karl Lagerfeld, I chose a neon yellow-green shoulder bag. The structure and color of this piece next to such a dainty dress worked to create a contrast that embodied the heart of couture show’s vibes. A white leather ankle-strapped heel completed the look.

Get My Look: 1. Lingerie-inspired dress. 2. Neon shoulder bag. 3. Ankle-strap heels.
