STYLE GURU STYLE: Erdem And Tropical Florals

In Erdem’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, the designer uses transparent fabrics. Each look gives off an alluring feel and by keeping the clothes loosely fitted, Erdem keeps the collection somewhat modest. On top of the sheer fabric, Erdem incorporates an overflow of applique. The applique softens the whole collection, yet the dark fabrics make the models look edgy and mysterious.

As a major inspiration, the collection creates a tropical vibe through the various details and colors. For example, some of the dresses, tops and skirts have floral applique, bright feathers and lace. As an important element, Erdem mixes his darks and lights, which makes the neon detailing more prevalent in the designs. Focusing on the colors, the models wear cooler tones. The dresses have a mixture of navy and cerulean with a punch of yellow ochre. Also some of the designs include forest green foliage, which enhances the tropical look. With spring finally here, Erdem keeps his collection youthful and vibrant. The floral detailing reminds us of the warmer months. On the other hand, he stays with the cooler tones suggesting the transition from winter to spring.

Reflecting on my personal style, I always choose floral pieces. I take note of the smaller details and what makes the piece stand out from other designs. Erdem replicates the traditional styles seen in the fashion industry; however, he takes his creativity on a whole different level. As a common trend, he leans towards floral textiles. His high end textiles represent components found in nature. As someone who loves to shop, I always find floral dresses, but the fabrics are bland and overdone. Erdem creates unusual textiles and he gives the fashion industry a new perspective on florals. After observing his spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I gravitated towards the colors. I found a sheer blouse with neon yellow applique. Neon daisies cover the whole top, which gives the look a whimsical feel. As a cover-up, I wore a forest green cardigan. The green cardigan makes the neon stand out.

Lastly, I paired the outfit with a statement necklace. The necklace has different colored gems with coral beading along the sides. Before creating the look, I wanted to capture the floral applique, but still keep the same color pallet. Color makes a major statement in any outfit. Many Fashionistas and Fashionistos need to explore the different possibilities of using color.
