STYLE GURU STYLE: Embroider Everything!

Yesterday I walked into Zara in El Salvador and one thing I noticed was that most of the clothes had some type of embroidery. It ranged from floral, plain stitches, and random objects. Then I thought, how could this trend, with strong Spanish and Hispanic influence, become so popular? According to Women’s Wear Daily, embroidery is the newest hip trend in resort wear 2017 and is seen very prominently on accessories used on the runway. From Fendi to 3.1 Phillip Lim, delicate embroidery has been added to various shoes and handbags. Fendi uses more of a traditional needle and thread approach to the embroidered trend, while 3.1 Phillip Lim modernizes the folkloric into the pleather bag with embroidered flowers.

As a fast-fashion retailer, Zara took advantage of this new trend and manipulated it to fit their demographic and overall style. Embroidery has now been merged together with apparel, from jackets to jeans to button-down shirts. Being a Spanish based company, Zara designers have added many Spanish features to the embroidery, with a combination of bright and pastel colors for the spring. It gives artisanal characteristics to the store in general, bringing their fast-fashion standing to even higher standing.

As a Style Guru, I was able to blend the trend perfectly with my day-to-day clothing. Obviously, I’m wearing my Zara white button-down embroidered shirt for this outfit. I love how detailed a plain shirt looks just because of the stitches of the embroidery. The colors used for this shirt are mostly pastel, but the white fabric of the shirt allows the embroidered details to stand out. I paired it with a simple knife-cut jean skirt and my ultimate favorite John Lennon inspired sunglasses. To keep it casual yet trendy, I added my all-white Adidas superstar sneakers to complete the look. This keeps it simple so all the attention is on the embroidered shirt. My handbag is a bucket style with a tie-up string to be able to carry all my necessities where I go. The camel and light brown color help to perfectly blend with the more muted yet pastel colors of the blouse.  Want to go to lunch with your friends? Or a coffee date? Or even a barbecue? This outfit and trend can be so versatile and be worn for day or night due to the exquisite detail that enhances the garment.
