STYLE GURU STYLE: Day-to-Night Dresses

Saint Laurent’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show was inspiring for anyone who loves bold colors and printed patterns during winter. “Spring’s Saint Laurent chick is a little more in love with color and a lot more comfortable with prints,” said reviewer Nichole Phelps.

I decided to take some inspiration from this fashion show and add my personal style. Bold, patterned dresses are a great go-to item regardless of the season. If you’re looking for a versatile dress, opt for a shift dress. I love this dress from Nordstrom because the pattern is unique, and you can wear it during winter or spring. There are endless possibilities for this style whether you plan to wear it during the day or for a night out with friends.

I also stock up on tights. If you want to take a plain dress and spice it up, tights are the perfect way to do so. If you’re wearing a patterned dress, black tights are a great option. I added my favorite pair of boots to wear during day for classes, but if you want to make this look wearable for a night out, simply add heeled ankle boots.

Although the focal point of this outfit is the bold dress, a coat can complement the look when done properly. I love coats and jackets with details that make it unique like the ruffled details and belted waist on this coat.

Remember that colored and patterned dresses aren’t only for spring and summer. They are easily wearable for winter. Shift dresses are a great choice because they’re versatile for this time of year. Make sure to wear yours with confidence and a smile!
