STYLE GURU STYLE: Coordinates

The beautiful weather we’ve been having in New Orleans has reminded me again of how difficult it is to get work done in the spring semester. Whether it’s the BUKU music festival I recently attended or a Sunday brunch at Salù, there’s always some activity taking time away from my homework. Despite this ongoing struggle to balance work and play, the spring weather means finally getting to pack away my heavy coats and trying out some of my favorite runway trends. After seeing the adorable matching sets in the kate spade spring 2015 runway collection I just had to get one of my own for the season.

As someone who usually leans towards solid colored separates, a coordinating top and bottom set takes all the worry out of wearing patterns. The less time required to make my outfit in the morning means more time to spend in the sunshine. The adorable floral sets in the kate spade show are perfect for a nice lunch or going to check out an outdoor art exhibit. Some people may be intimidated by full on florals like in the collection, but a more subtle look like the black and white grid pattern on my set is a great way to try out the trend.

The clothing is eye-catching on its own so I didn’t want to add too many accessories to distract from the look. I wore my everyday jewelry consisting of turquoise and coral brackets and simple rings. I added a little extra sparkle and class with my gray suede loafers complete with small jewels. I also wore a structured white purse that reminded me of some of the small clutches and bags in the kate spade show.

Get My Look: 1. A matching top and skirt set. 2. Detailed loafers. 3. A small white cross-body bag.
