STYLE GURU STYLE: Comme Ci Comme Ça

Spring is right around the corner, and I’m getting so antsy to jump into spring trends! From gingham to bright yellow, I’m itching to lighten up and leave this long winter behind. However, the weather isn’t quite ready to let me do that just yet. I’m doing a bit of bargaining with Mother Nature and breaking into some spring trends with a few perfect transitional pieces. Fuller midi skirts are an amazing silhouette for spring and have been around for a few seasons now. Araks and Timo Weiland both featured full skirt silhouettes that are irresistibly pretty. They can be styled in a million different ways. Pair them with combat boots and a band T-shirt for an punky twist on feminine, or play up the girly vibe with pretty pastels and light fabrics.

Since it’s a little cold to pull out lighter midi skirts, I decided to celebrate the marginally warmer weather with one of my absolute favorite skirts. I found this emerald ponte knit pleated skirt on the sale rack at Anthropologie a couple years ago, and I’ve gotten endless use out of it. It goes with everything and is surprisingly versatile. Of course, what I really love most about it is that I feel like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday every time I wear it. It immediately lifts my mood and makes me feel girly in all the right ways.

I decided to make this outfit a bit of a tribute to Paris, one of my favorite cities. There is something so effortlessly chic about a full midi skirt. It’s elegant, flattering and impossibly easy to wear, three qualities that are universal within true Parisian-girl style. With that in mind, I threw on my favorite T-shirt from Madewell, featuring the phrase “comme ci comme ça,” meaning “like this, like that.” It’s delightfully French and so perfectly captures their easy attitude toward fashion and beauty.

To finish off the look, I layered on some of my favorite accessories that always make me feel confident and rad. I threw on my favorite Goorin Brothers hat that I found in South Carolina on Spring Break. It’s a little touch of urban bohemia that I adore! I threw on my metallic ALDO booties for some punchy sass. I always love to make a statement with my footwear! Rebecca Minkoff studs, a monogrammed bar necklace from Urban Outfitters, a vintage Calvin Klein belt and the perfect Mia Wallace red lips serve as my final touches. The end result is equal parts fun and special, with quirky details that are completely indicative of me. When you’re styling your own midi skirt, be sure to stay true to your personal style and incorporate some of your favorite things!
