STYLE GURU STYLE: Color Me Happy

Bright. Bold. Beautiful. Why would you want to be anything less? As the flowers come into full bloom this spring, let your wardrobes do the same with color, vibrancy and originality. Spring is a time for renewal and an opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone, so why not start with your style?

The bold hues from Prada’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection inspired me to bust out the color in my wardrobe. Although the colors in Prada’s collection are a bit more subdued for fall, I translated them into bright yellows and oranges as warmth and happiness arrive with the spring season. Business in front and a party in the back, I dusted off this Silence + Noise jacket lurking in my closet and added the already busy piece to an eye-catching tank top. With all of the action happening up top, layering plain black leggings underneath seemed to be the obvious choice (and a great excuse to be comfy!).

While the top half of this look steals the show, the accessories play an essential supporting role in accentuating the colors. Making use of my new Kat Von D lipstick from Sephora, the color perfectly matched the jacket. Vintage yellow pumps from my favorite local boutique, Cactus Flower, finished the outfit off, bringing the color back together after the top half took an intermission with the black leggings. Hair was kept simple to stray away from sensory overload, but of course I had to keep my signature dark cat eye. For those who argue that dramatic color can’t be versatile, this look is appropriate for a meeting, a class or even a night out!
