STYLE GURU STYLE: Color Blocking it Out

When I first saw the Tory Burch fall 2016 line, I immediately fell in love with it. This line has everything I wish was in my closet. All the pieces are stylish, polished and runway ready but with an all-American vibe. I love clean cut, preppy style and the Tory Burch line makes this style look effortless and high fashion; the line plays with classic styles but adds tons of color blocking. There are trench coats that look like a Piet Mondrian painting and mismatched argyle sweaters and scarves. Tory Burch nailed the modern preppy, and this line has totally captured my heart.

One thing I noticed when viewing the line and reading about it was the line has an East Coast equestrian influence. When I saw the outfits I remembered a certain skirt I have and thought it could fit right in with this line. The skirt isn’t outright equestrian, but there are some fun medals around the hem that give off the equestrian vibes! I saw this skirt at a vintage store and I knew I had to have it. If you find a scarf with a print you love and it’s large enough you could easily make that into a skirt!

Since Tory Burch’s line is full of bold, block colors together I paired this printed skirt with a striped T-shirt. Striped T-shirts are a staple even if you’re not into preppy style. Throw on a striped T-shirt with some jeans and you’ve got a great look in less than a minute!  I finished off my look with a bold necklace and nude flats to make the look more summer appropriate. The line is for fall but with a couple of adjustments and I have a look great for a spring or cool summer day!

Get My Look: 1. Striped T-shirt. 2. Printed skirt. 3. Gold statement necklace. 4. Nude flats.
