STYLE GURU STYLE: Chanel

Chanel is the name that comes to mind when we think of a brand whose sophistication and classic looks transcend time. This year’s Chanel spring 2015 Couture show was no different. This collection features stunning colors on skirts and dresses that are a variety of lengths. These colors mixed with the floral appliqués give Chanel’s collection what I feel to be the essence of spring. Although a flowered crop top and matching visor may not be something that any of us Fashionistas would choose to wear to class, we can take a cue from Chanel’s color scheme and pattern for our spring wardrobes.

My favorite part about the Chanel spring show were the contrasting colors that were used for the outfits, and how much movement the flowers on the dresses had down the runway. For my Chanel-inspired outfit, I chose a floral maxi dress with blue flowers that has hints of red. The contrast in colors of the flower pattern makes for an accent to the pattern and keeps the dress from being an overwhelming amount of blue.

In the show some of the models wore capes and appliquéd shrugs, but since I would look a bit out of place in Pittsburgh wearing either one of those, I opted instead for a hooded knit sweater. And finally, while in the world of couture, they normally do not add jewelry, I find that for street fashion class rings and necklaces can’t be the finishing touches. Here, I wore my favorite jeweled rings and turquoise necklace.

Get my look: 1. Floral maxi dress. 2. A knit sweater. 3. Jeweled rings.
