Calm, cool and collected is the perfect way to describe the Elizabeth & James 2016 resort collection. This line is definitely something to obsess about not only because Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen designed it, but because, well, it is almost too chic for words to describe.
A neutral color palette of blacks and whites in addition to oversized apparel completely dominated this exquisite line. The Elizabeth & James collection began with more structured coats and pants then transitioned into longer, flowing jackets and dresses that entirely transformed into more boxy items. Surprise additions in the line were textured coats and subtle pops of pewter blue, which helped make the show a success. The collection was completed with flat slip-on sandals for that “I woke up like this” attitude. Overall, I couldn’t resist the temptation to try my hand at styling my own attire using the Elizabeth & James collection as inspiration.
In order to make this outfit a success, I wore my favorite long and flowing dark button-down shirt from Zara as the main statement piece which is also similar to the piece that the model is wearing. The more formal aspect of the shirt was juxtaposed with side vents, giving off a business causal vibe with an edge. Underneath the button-down, I kept to a monochromatic theme by wearing a dark gray tank top and shorts to help keep the summer heat at bay. In place of sandals, I sported a pair of chunky black Steve Madden oxfords for a masculine-inspired touch and completed the outfit with a silver statement necklace. By focusing on a more structured and formal attire, it gave me the unique look similar to the Elizabeth & James line.
Overall, with an outfit this fabulous, I feel a little calmer, a little cooler, definitely more collected and maybe even chic.
