STYLE GURU STYLE: Blue Skies, Blue Shorts

The alice + olivia spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection is overflowing with bright spring colors and loud prints. Stacey Bendet, the designer for alice + olivia, experiments with print clashing, horizontal stripes and beloved floral patterns that never go out of style. By playing around and experimenting with mixing various printed fabrics, Bendet is keeping her outfit options open when it comes to her collection. That way any separate piece can be worn with another in a multitude of different outfits.

While Bendet is experimenting, I kept my outfit simple. The first and second looks of the collection were my main sources of inspiration. alice + olivia pairs a patterned top with a solid bottom, keeping the color scheme the same throughout. In their case, the pants are coral, whereas in my case they are navy blue.

I kept the blue color scheme throughout my look so I could experiment with accessories. All-white shoes are my go-to, so I wore my high-top Vans. The main accessory of the look was my floral purse. The differences in colors stood out among the blue hues of my outfit.

alice + olivia’s collection was reminiscent of past decades through French styles. To me, the collection captured multiple different aspects of decade fashion and still kept the same scheme to it throughout. Bendet inspired me to stop trying too hard to fit the pieces together and to let the outfit speak for itself. Sometimes in fashion, we try so hard to make an outfit look good, and most of the time the outfit is so much simpler than that.

Get My Look: 1. A cute tank top. 2. Solid shorts. 3. Cool sneakers. 4. A bright purse.
