STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Is The New Black

As seasons in the fashion world are changing, it will not be long before the next set of fall lines jump from the runways to the streets for all Fashinoistos/as to wear. The Dolce&Gabbana fall 2015 collection has already made its presence, replacing spring fever with autumn rush. The line made headlines just in time for Mother’s Day with its main focus on mothers, the most powerful women in society. “Every man everywhere has a mother,” Stefano Gabbana stated as the mission behind the fall line. Midwestern spring is hardly a season, so I decided to try Gabbana’s look before it makes its way into stores.

I chose to recreate a look that also stayed true to my style the most. To keep with the themed roses from the runway, I sported a maroon velvet mini skirt like some of the Dolce&Gabbana models. My black crochet blouse replicates the floral theme in Gabbana’s collection. Rather than wearing heels, I decided on a classic ankle boot to transform the runway look into a daytime outfit. For weather purposes, I chose a black, long blazer and tights. The gold zippers on my jacket are meant to resemble the gold embroidery layered on the black crochet pieces within the line. I kept my ensemble both sophisticated and simple with minimal makeup rather than a bold red lip. The only accessory I am wearing is a jeweled headband, as Gabbana had his models do as well.

The use of black and gold was no match for my closet, but Gabbana’s fall collection can never truly be recreated. I played on black one last time before spring officially arrives. The result? I realized how even the most powerful women could be overlooked, but there are reminders like the Gabbana fall collection that make our power timeless.

Get my look: 1. Velvet skirt. 2. Black crochet top. 3. Jeweled headband.
