STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Is Always In

Two words: black and white. Summer may be steadily approaching but that doesn’t mean you have to put away the black pieces in your closet. In fact, chief creative officer of Burberry, Christopher Bailey’s vision strove for that exact timeless/seasonless look in Burberry’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection incorporated both more structured pieces and flowy ones, opting for a more practical look with the use of more eclectic pieces that could easily be found in anyone’s wardrobe.

There’s this common misconception that black is only intended for the cooler months when in actuality it remains classic and can be worn all year-round. The same goes for white worn in the cooler months. But, recently designers have taken a stand against these archaic stereotypes. Burberry is the perfect example.

Black and white was a huge theme in the show. Inspired by the rough lacy materials and the black-and-white color scheme of the Burberry show, I put together my own extremely simplistic version of Burberry’s timeless creations.

Lace was a huge component in the show. The models were adorned in light color laces but accessorized with black jackets or accents. These shorts have that same vibe. The white lace is a summer classic and despite them being a drawstring short, I still manage to dress up the look and draw the eye in. They are the perfect, throw-on piece for summer. I paired my lace shorts with a plain black shell to mimic the chic black and white style of the Burberry show.

To dress up the look a bit to Burberry standards, I chose to top off my look with a pair of black espadrille wedges and of course, red lipstick. There is nothing chicer than wearing all-black and -white pieces with a pop of color!

Lastly, I finished off my look with a pair of mirrored sunglasses for that cool girl look.

Get My Look: 1. White lace shorts. 2. Black espadrilles. 3. Mirrored sunglasses.
