STYLE GURU STYLE: Back In Black

Pierre-Auguste Renoir said, “I’ve been 40 years discovering that the queen of all colors was black.” I see much truth in this quote considering the black T-shirts, pants, blouses and blazers that line my closet. There’s something about the color black in fashion that adds mystery and sophistication to the person sporting it. KaufmanFranco’s resort 2016 collection was nothing short of black brilliance. Every look from this collection was sleek and fabulous. Whether you were checking out the micro shorts, scuba jackets or sequined shifts, each look transitioned beautifully to the next.

I immediately connected with look four. The leather scuba top gave an edgy feel to the look while the flare trousers added the right sense of sophistication. The tightness and texture of the top balanced out the loose fit of the pants. If we’re being honest, I have such a weakness for anything leather so this look immediately caught my eye.

Considering how many black articles of clothing I own, I definitely had my options as to what to mix and match. However, there’s more to pairing an outfit together than just throwing on a black shirt and pants. For my bottoms, I chose black palazzo pants paired with a black turtle neck crop top. To add a little bit of texture, I threw on a draped gray cardigan with leather shoulder patches. With a little mix and matching, I transformed that sleek runway look into my own day out look.

Get My Look: 1. Palazzo pants. 2. Turtle neck crop top. 3. Draped cardigan. 4. Slingback wedges.
