STYLE GURU STYLE: All-Black Everything

Peeking into my closet, you’ll discover that there is one particular color that dominates my wardrobe. I love wearing the color black. It’s chic, easy to pair with other colors and is transitional from day to night. Personally, I believe that it is a standout color and black pieces, be it tops and bottoms or accessories, are possibly the best investment one can make.

Oak’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection justifies my argument. It includes many all-black looks, from coats to jeans to ankle booties, and demonstrates how it can stand out against colors like gray, white and navy. There is nothing drab about their collection, nor is it dark or gothic, which is traditionally how many would define an all-black look. I raced to my closet to find pieces to create a look inspired by their versatile and effortlessly chic collection. I paired a long-sleeve black crop top with my favorite pair of black cropped cotton jersey pants (the most soft and comfortable item I own and my go-to piece for traveling!) and accessorized with a black and white skull-print scarf, mint clutch and leather ankle booties. The scarf adds some edge—which Oak achieved through tougher-than-nails pieces like leather jackets and ripped jeans—while the clutch adds a feminine touch. What I love most about this look is that the clutch really isn’t the focal point and wouldn’t stand out if it wasn’t for the black pieces. Black truly is essential.

Once and for all, let’s end the argument. There is nothing plain, boring or drab about black. It helps build a chic and classic look that can be rocked anywhere, which is something we can all get behind!
