STYLE GURU STYLE: A Twist on the Classics

We all love the classic cold weather look; a thick, neutral sweater, black pants and boots. You can never go wrong with this look, but that means it’s safe. And with weather as unpredictable as we’ve been having in this lovely Southern California fall, it can be fun to let your style be as free as nature.

We Fashionistas don’t seem to be the only ones feeling this way. Tom Ford’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection took a big turn from the designer’s usual reliable, if predictable, patterns. While some of the all-black, original ensembles still appeared, Ford added some psychedelic bohemian pattern into the mix, a huge drawing point for many of the Fashionistas out there. This twist on the classic look launches Tom Ford’s designs into a new wave of fashion.

Inspired by this, I put together my own traditional outfit with a little pop of color. I paired a chunky, off the shoulder knit sweater with a plain pair of black leggings. However, to shake things up a bit, I threw on a multi-colored scarf. Like Tom Ford, I wanted to keep the basics of a wintery outfit while integrating my own personality into it.

I finished the look off with a pair of over-the-knee black boots and a simple-looking Michael Kors watch. Although it is always fun to accessorize, I wanted to keep it uncomplicated so as to not draw away from the scarf, which was the main attraction of the outfit.

This is an easy look that any Fashionista can obtain. All you have to do is throw on something that you would normally wear during the cold season, and then renovate it by adding something funky that you wouldn’t have thought to have paired it with before!

Get My Look: 1. A chunky, knit sweater. 2. Over-the-knee boots. 3. A bright, multi-colored scarf.
