STYLE GURU BIO: Rebekah Halvorsen

Growing up in seven different places gave me exposure to a variety of cultures. Those experiences are what eventually shaped the personal style that I have today. New York City is without a doubt my favorite place I have ever lived. Although I love pretending to be a true New Yorker, I spent most of my childhood in Norway and Florida. My roots in minimalism definitely came from my Norwegian family and the Scandinavian culture, and my love for daring prints evolved during my time in Miami. I finally ended up on the West Coast after accepting admission at Chapman University, where I am currently studying peace studies and political science. However, when I’m not on campus I can be found at CocoRose Boutique, where I am the social media manager and assistant buyer. My favorite task is styling and photographing girls for our Instagram, which is probably the app I spend most time on (a little guilty pleasure of mine).

A girl’s personal style is always difficult to explain. However, I would classify myself as an “either or” kind of gal. Meaning I have two personalities when it comes to my style. I’m either head-to-toe in all neutrals (different shades of black obviously), or I grab a bold print and work around that piece. This look is one of the latter. Although this romper is from Stone Cold Fox, my go-to is usually Zara. Most of my favorite pieces originated from their amazing sales, which is the only time I will endure a ridiculously long line (or for bomb food, that’s a priority right there). My staple piece is definitely a solid pair of booties. Working at multiple Steve Madden locations taught me how to love a good pair of heels, but a cute pair of booties will always come first for me. Whether they are leather or suede, high or ankle, heeled or flat, my collection is constantly growing.

Attending classes in Orange County taught me how to conquer a cute outfit when your classrooms are freezing and the outside temperature has you melting. If there is one piece of style advice I can give you ladies; it’s this. Find yourself an oversized cardigan. Not only will you live in it during finals week (also serves as a blanket), but it is the comfiest way to enhance your outfit. Feeling a simple T-shirt and shorts kind of day? Throw on an oversized cardigan and some booties to immediately add some taste.

Looking forward to a great semester with you Fashionistas!
