STYLE GURU BIO: Queenie Navarro

My name is Queenie Navarro and this is my first semester as a Style Guru. I am so excited to finally be able to show off my love for fashion through CollegeFashionista and am eager to begin my journey as a style blogger.

Currently, I am an accounting major attending my third year at Pepperdine University in the beautiful beach city of Malibu. On campus, I am involved with the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and am one of the founders of the university’s Her Campus chapter. When I am not doing university-related activities, I love to bake and am an avid lover of all things crunchy and sweet. I also love to sing and play the piano as music has always been a major part of my life.

I believe fashion is an extension of oneself—a reflection that gives a glimpse of what is inside. What makes an outfit fashionable are not the accessories used, the colors worn, the brand names or even the clothes themselves. What makes an outfit fashionable is the person underneath it. Like makeup, fashion is simply an enhancer, a statement that is attributed to the uniqueness of each individual. My goal as a Style Guru is to capture this uniqueness in each Fashionista/o.

I don’t have any one specific type of look I migrate towards because I love experimenting with different styles. Sometimes my style depends on my moods and other times, on occasions. One moment, I am into leather jackets and then the next I am into sweatpants. If I’m feeling stressed, I’ll wear flip flops and if I’m feeling a little more girly and it’s cold outside, I’ll opt for boots. Aren’t we all sometimes fickle in our moods and our state of dress? I guess I’m that kind of person.

Fall is just around the corner and it’s time to slowly transition into warmer clothing. For this look, I opted for something more versatile to welcome the incoming school year and the colder days. The sheer blouse acts as a warmer layer and is left unbuttoned a bit for an edgier appearance. Underneath, I’m wearing a simple white tank top with a red and black plaid skirt. Since I’m fun-sized (5’1), it’s necessary for me to show more leg to look taller, so I hemmed the skirt. Since it’s not quite fall yet and summer isn’t over, I decided to wear biker boots for maximum comfort—not too warm and not too cold—to complete the outfit. I wanted the look to have a vertical ombre effect from light to dark—white to black. This look is meant to be a statement to the change in seasons.

Remember that confidence is key to perfecting any look. With that said, I can’t wait to share my passion for fashion with all of you Fashionistas/os!
