STYLE GURU BIO: Mikala Menegio-Stahl

Hello, hello! My name is Mikala, I’m a freshman at American University in Washington, DC, studying journalism and studio art with a focus in photography. I originally went to AU for international relations and Arabic, but after a few months I realized that my true passion lies in fashion. I am extremely excited to be using my passion for fashion journalism this semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!

I try to keep my life as interesting as possible; for example: last summer I was extremely bored, so I bought throwing knives and taught myself how to throw them. Now, I am pretty good at knife throwing and it’s become a fun hobby that keeps my life from becoming boring and basic.

If there are two things in this world that I am addicted to, they are shopping and espresso. Chances are that if you can’t find me, I’m either out looking at clothes or trying to find the nearest coffee shop. I am an avid believer that personal style is one of the most important things a person can develop for themselves. Style is a way to express yourself to the world and extends way beyond clothing. In terms of my personal style, you can catch me in all-black, or all-neutral outfits with hints of light pink or pale blues. If you were to look at the color of my soul, it would probably be a fluffy black cloud with little spots of light pink and silver shining out of it. I love subtle metallic accents, textured fabrics, and pretty much anything made out of lace. My style is minimalistic and simple, yet shows my creativity.

In this outfit I am wearing my newest favorite jacket, from BB Dakota that I snagged on sale after the holidays, a lace tank top from Seven Sisters, distressed jeans that I thrifted from Goodwill, and Steve Madden ankle booties.
