STYLE GURU BIO: Melissa Johnson

Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Melissa, and I am super excited to be a Style Guru this spring semester. I am a sophomore at Kent State University studying fashion design. I love spotting fun street style around campus so I’m really looking forward to this internship this semester!

I’m from a suburb outside of Philadelphia, and day trips into Philly are one of my favorite things to do when I go home. I love how different peoples’ styles are in the city, and the many museums, historic sites, and fabric shops provide the perfect backdrop for fashion and inspiration. I also love taking day trips to New York City, which is only a few hours away. I love having a fashion Mecca easily accessible to me when I go home.

My own style is constantly changing, especially with my time here at Kent. I’d describe my style as bohemian, mixed with influences from current trends and street style I see. I love layering lots of flowy pieces together over tighter jeans or leggings, topped off with big jackets; comfy yet practical in the cold Ohio winters. I love this sweater because it is so warm and cozy, and the fringe detail on the sleeves and the cowl neck give it a little extra edge. I also like the contrast between the big sweater and the sleek boots. Thigh-high boots have been one of my very favorite trends this season. Piling on these little beaded bracelets gives the outfit a little bit of extra sparkle and completes the look.

I get a lot of my fashion inspiration from various European bloggers. I love how they pile on layers so effortlessly and always end up looking trendy. I love that you can find fashion everywhere you go. It’s like an extra language you can find on every continent! I am eager to start my internship here this spring semester and can’t wait to see what’s in store!
